I feel great pleasure to be here today and talk about a topic which is very dear to me, that is THE IMPORTANCE OF MODESTY IN ISLAM.

Let us first define Modesty. It is freedom from vanity and showiness. It is decency and moderation in speech, manner, dress and total attitude and behavior towards life. It is shyness, simplicity and humility about our abilities and accomplishments.

Modesty is for both male and female. It isn't only for women as many people have the misconception. The sphere of Modesty in Islamic morality is so vast that it encompasses all aspects of human life.

There are many forms of Zina, but what we are addressing here is the highest form. This is adultery, fornication, having sexual intercourse without being married to the person.

Allah (SWT)'s order in the Quran to stay away from Zina.

"And those who invoke not any other god along with Allah, nor kill such life as Allah has forbidden, except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse (zina) and whoever does this shall receive the punishment. The torment will be doubled to him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein in disgrace; except those who repent and believe and do righteous deeds, for those Allah will change their sins into good deeds, and Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful." (al-Furqaan #25, ayat #68-70)

"And come not near to unlawful sexual intercourse. Verily, it is a faahishah (a great sin) and an evil way." (Sura Al-Israa # 17 ayah # 32)

Fore play is a vital element of a happy and successful martial life. It should never be neglected. It is absolutely vital that a man arouse his wife sexually via foreplay before indulging in sexual intercourse. It is indeed callous and selfish that he fulfils his desires like an animal while his wife experiences no sensation whatsoever. This is extremely demoralizing for the women and has terrible consequences for the couple and their marriage.
Therefore every couple should take the trouble of exploring those regions of each other’s anatomy that will arouse their desires and heighten their pleasure. These areas are known as the “erogenous zones”. They vary from person to person but are generally concentrated in the upper body are and the below the naval, if stroked tenderly, cause the sexual desires to rise and passions to be kindled.

In Islam, family is the cornerstone of the society and sex is viewed as a practical aspect of Islam's perception of the family.


Sex is an aspect of human behavior; however, in Islam, behavior of any kind is not divorced from belief.

Thus, people who believe in God, understand their individual responsibility to fulfill their God-given mission on earth, and realize that this earthly life will end with death, then resurrection and accountability, will definitely behave in a different way from someone who has none of these beliefs.

The topic of sex has universal appeal.Sex is portrayed daily in various forms—directly or indirectly—in newspapers, magazines, cinemas, and in conversations between people.The topic of sex conjures images of sexuality, promiscuity, lewdness, adultery, fornication, pornography, rape, teenage pregnancies, pedophilia, gays, sexually transmitted diseases, contraceptives, abortions, and HIV/AIDS.

Yet somehow, despite the fact that “everyone” is influenced by this topic, it seems that most parents find this topic somewhat “delicate” to discuss with their children.Children of today seem to be maturing at a faster rate than a generation ago and often ask intelligent questions of their parents.Some parents do their level best to satisfy their children’s natural curiosity.Other parents simply don’t know how to handle their fast–growing kids and often assume that the less said about the subject of sex, the better.In some homes the word “sex” is taboo, and children are often reprimanded for asking innocent questions.Parents assume that children will grow up and “they will learn,” or that the school or friends are “responsible” for sharing this knowledge.The reality is that parents who have this view are overlooking a major and significant source of correct information regarding this topic—themselves!Our children have the right to be given an unbiased view of sex, based on the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

Studies show pornography is progressive and addictive for many. It often leads to the user acting out his fantasy - often on children.

AIDS is a fatal disease that weakens the resistance of the body and makes it defenseless against all kinds of infections such as pneumonia, diarrhoeas, Kaposi's Sarcoma, etc.

• Anyone who develops AIDS will die within a few years and the death is likely to be horrible.


• Until today there is still NO CURE for it.


• AIDS is spread mainly due to indiscriminate sexual activity, homosexuality & drug abuse.

Our food and diet plays the central role in sexual potency or impotency. Food is digested and converted into healthy or unhealthy blood. This blood then is converted into semen, the lifeblood of man’s sexual activities. It is therefore imperative that such foods be ingested that become a source of healthy blood and semen. Such foods that will grant strength to the body, the mind and the heart after sexual indulgence; because sexual indulgence weakens the human body considerably.

An assortment of various suitable foods for sexual potency are now presented:
GRAINS:-

Premature ejaculation is a sexual problem that could adversely affect the marriage. In premature ejaculation, semen is discharged immediately or very shortly after the commencement of sexual activity-within 30 to 60 seconds- whereas the normal period aught to be 2 to 3 minutes.

Due to this condition, the woman remains sexually unsatisfied and this could lead to a problematic marital relationship. Furthermore, it is also a cause of not being able to have children. These have serious implications on the marriage and thus this situation needs to be remedied as swiftly as possible.

There are two fundamental causes to this problematic condition:

Islam’s emphasis on cleanliness is a known fact to even little children of good Muslims homes cleanliness is half of Faith (Iman one hadith teaches us).

At the time of sexual intercourse, this aspect of Islam becomes even more emphatic. Physical cleanliness enhances spiritual purity.

Both the partners should preferably be in the state of wuzu.

As mentioned previously under the section on PREPARATION (See Chapter 4), the mouth should be cleansed thoroughly with miswaak or a brush at least. There cannot be a worse turn-off than bad breath and pungent odours. Those habituated to smoking should take extra precautions in this regard. The importance of this can be gauged from the masala of Shariah with regard to a person who has eaten onions or garlic entering the masjid. The Fuqaha (Rahimahumullah)(Jurists) have ruled that it is Prohibited for such a person to enter the majid! Reason: Because it is a cause of Takleef (discomfort) to the fellow-musallis. How important would it then be for husband and wife, who are constantly in each other proximity to maintain proper oral hygiene and not to cause abhorrence to each other by neglecting this important aspect of Taharah and cleanliness! Such neglect could be the cause of serious detriment to the marriage. It is such seemingly “insignificant” matters that become the root to broken homes and other marital discord.

Muslims, Islam, and AIDS: Thoughts on the 2nd International Muslim Religious Leaders Consultation on HIV/AIDS


The spread of HIV/AIDS within families brings up an interesting concern with addressing inconsistencies between intent and experience within the family: How do certain family structures create greater vulnerability? The first part of this presentation will look at an interesting paradox: the family, that institution through which human beings expect and receive their greatest nurturing, is the same institution that can create the greatest vulnerabilities in the spread of HIV/AIDS for women and children. When the structure of family itself causes vulnerability, critical examination is even more in order to construct ways that civil society can empower family members to challenge the abuses that occur within families. However, some see the very idea of challenging “family” as a disruption in social well being. Ultimately my question is: How can families empower all members equally despite vulnerability due to age or gender.

Islam teaches that homosexual acts are sinful and punishable by God. This teaching comes not from human beings, but from the Creator of all humans. God tells us in His own words how He punished the people of Lot for their homosexual behaviour.

The story of prophet Lot, on whom be peace, finds mention in several Qur'anic passages, especially Chapter 26:160-175 which reads:

After my presentation on sex education guidelines for Muslim youth and parents at the Islamic Center in Toledo, Ohio, in 1992, many questions were asked by Muslim youth. The Toledo Muslim community is progressive, affluent and has an even mixture of Arab and Indo-Pakistani immigrants.

I compiled all the written questions submitted to me, answered them to the best of my knowledge, and then sent the questions to the late Dr. Mahmood Abu Saud, the well-known scholar, for a second opinion. He did not know my answers. Some of the answers have already been published in the Islamic Monitor, the magazine of the Islamic Society of Toledo, in English and Arabic.

Total nudity during coition has been prohibited in Islam. Rasulullah (Sallallahu-Alayhi-Wasallam) has enlikened such an action to that of asses cohaviting in public.

The progeny of such a couple will certainly turn out to be shameless and immoral.

"Allah knows the deceit of the eyes and all that which the hearts conceal."

The realisation that Allah is aware of these nefarious activities creates a sense of shame, regret and guilt within the heart resulting in taubah (repentance). This verse is therefore a wonderful prescription for people suffering from the malady of lustful gazes and thoughts. However, this remedy is only effective when applied practically over a period of time. Constant meditation upon the contents of this aayah, coupled with zikrullah (the remembrance of Allah) and wazaif (daily incantation), will develop the desired level of determination to abstain from this sin.
